Health Habits That Are Damaging Your Skin
Could you be causing harm to your skin with these bad habits?

Your skin is influenced by many different factors, not just what you're putting on it daily during your skincare routine.

Here are some lifestyle and diet factors that are ruining your skin but never fear, Missy's here to tell you how to improve on your daily habits to achieve a more radiant, healthy complexion.

Needing Your Morning Coffee Fix

Too much caffeine can be bad for your skin because caffeine dehydrates your body. Anything that does this to your body will also do it to your skin, so if your skin is dry you should be looking at your coffee habit because it could be to blame. When skin is dry, it looks dull and any fine lines and wrinkles become more noticeable. Switch to drinks that hydrate you, such as chamomile tea, so your skin looks moisturized all day.

Letting Stress Overwhelm You

Stress has negative effects on your general health but also your skin. This is because when you're stressed out, your body releases more of the cortisol (or stress) hormone. This wreaks havoc on your skin by making it produce more amounts of oil. The result is oilier, acne-prone skin. When there's too much cortisol in your body, it can also worsen any existing skin conditions you have, such as psoriasis or eczema. Getting stressed a lot can also cause you to frown a lot, which causes lines to appear on your face, such as on your forehead and around your pursed lips. Try to find ways to relax your mind every day, whether this involves meditation, chatting to loved ones, or engaging in exercise to keep your stress levels under control.

Eating Foods That Boost Your Blood Sugar

If you're always reaching for foods that are highly-processed, such as white bread or junk food, it shouldn't surprise you when your skin starts to suffer. This is because such foods cause your blood sugar to increase too quickly and this makes your body's hormones increase too. Foods that are high in fat and carbs, such as junk food can also cause acne due to the excess oil that gets produced when your blood sugar goes haywire.   Switch to foods that save your skin, such as omega-3 rich foods (like salmon) that keep skin supple, and a variety of fresh produce that increases your skin's intake of antioxidants. These are important to kill free radicals that target the skin and cause a variety of issues, such as wrinkles and dark spots.

Skipping Sunscreen When You're In A Rush

When you don't have much time to get ready in the morning and you know you will only be out in the sun for a little while, you might skip applying sunscreen. But those UV rays can sneak up on you: while you're driving, they can penetrate the skin on your arm, hands and face; while you're working at your computer, they can penetrate windows; and even just a short time in the sun is enough for those harmful rays to reach your skin, where they can cause melanin to be produced by your skin's cells, causing pigmentation. They also damage collagen, which the skin produces to maintain its firm and youthful appearance.  Never ditch putting on sunscreen: it's the most important skincare product you own. To remind yourself to wear it, store it next to your bathroom basin and always carry it in your bag so you can reapply it during your day.

Missing Out On Beauty Sleep

It's called beauty sleep for a reason! When you get enough sleep, your skin heals itself, regenerating its damaged cells so you can wake up looking radiant. A lack of sleep causes your skin's PH levels to decrease, which inhibits the skin's production of moisture. The result is dry, uneven skin. Aim for seven or eight hours of sleep every night and try to ensure that your bedroom enables you to achieve a quality snooze. Keep it cool, dark and free of noise for uninterrupted, skin-boosting sleep.

Having gorgeous skin has a lot to do with a healthy lifestyle and diet. By making this a priority in your daily life, you can enjoy a more radiant and even complexion.
