Glowing skin and bright eyes don’t just come down to genes. To even out the playing field, we had some of our fave expert makeup artists spill their secret tips and hero products for that perfectly pretty face.

Mia Hawkswell knows how to do flawless skin. Her skills have seen her bag international gigs and work with gorgeous beauty queen Rachel Finch. “I like to mix foundation textures, not just colours. We’ve just switched from summer to winter, so your skin might be prone to dehydration. I like to mix MAC Mineralize Moisture SPF15 Foundation with a medium coverage foundation to keep it looking sheer.”

Hawkswell’s currently smitten with IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Under Eye Anti-Ageing Concealer. Her tip is to let it sit on the skin for a couple of minutes before buffing it in. “This makes it last longer, oxidising the concealer by letting it almost set. When you do buff it in, it will look flawless with a satin finish!”

Jodhi Meares, Samantha Harris, Sophie Lowe and Jesinta Campbell have all been dusted with one of Fimomena Natoli’s fluffy blending brushes. She’s full of ingenious tips like, “Brush a little bit of pawpaw ointment into the brows to help them look shiny and well placed.”

One of her current hero products is Charlotte Tilbury’s Film Star Bronze & Glow. “I love it because it contours and highlights perfectly without a glittery Vegas-style finish. I like to apply a wash of the bronze colour over my entire lid, then I press the colour into my top and bottom lash line as a liner. I finish by tightlining with white pencil and applying highlighting powder to the tear duct, and then mascara.”

Playing makeup maestro for Vivienne Westwood, Marc Jacobs and Alexander McQueen, Oralie Maylin knows a thing or ten about makeup application. Currently struggling with uneven winged eyeliner? “Start with a soft kohl pencil to get the flick you want, then go over it with your favourite ink!”

She’s also a big believer in quality brushes. “There’s no point in having a bag full of expensive makeup with no tools to apply it with.” Oralie loves Bobbi Brown’s Full Coverage Brush. “It’s great for creating that airbrushed look, and you can use it for liquids and powders. I particularly like to use it after applying blusher, to buff cheek colour into the skin.”
