Beauty SPOT

Fresh Faced or Hot to Trot?  Whatever your chosen look, we help you become a Blushing Beauty.

Instant cheekbones have never been easier to achieve than now!  Pretty and fresh, or the sharp boned vixen; choose the look you want with a simple shade of blush.  But how do we choose what product is right for us?  Do we want dewy, creamy cheeks, a light rosy glow, or the perfect set of a powder?

What we do know is that a good blush is the perfect tool to let your happiness and wellness shine.  Blush will add definition to your cheekbones, make your eyes sparkle and give you a healthy appearance.  Now who doesn’t want that?

Wield this secret weapon carefully though, as blush applied incorrectly can be spotted a mile away.  The most common mistake with applying blush occurs when people apply too much.  Grab a cuppa and a bikkie, sit back and relax while we guide you through the best ways to become a blushing beauty, showcase the latest products on the market, and brush off some old faves.

OUR TIPS AND TRICKS FOR FINDING AND APPLYING YOUR PERFECT BLUSH.

1.No clowns here: The key to correct blush application is to know how much is too much. First, choose a colour that complements your natural skin tones. If you have several colours in your blush palette, try mixing and matching to come up with the colours that best suit you.
2.Invest in a quality brush: Many products come with an applicator brush, but many of these will be fairly small in order to fit into the compact.  We recommend you purchase your own good quality fat blush brush – find a great selection at Mecca Cosmetica -  www.meccacosmetica.com.au.
3.We want a nice flush from our blush: Rosy blush colours can often complement most skin shades, although for darker skin, neutral beiges and tans are often a better option. The look you are trying to achieve is what your cheeks look like after you’ve been in the cold or just come in from a jog. Run the brush over the palette and tap it on a hard surface to remove any extra colour.
4.Blend, blend, blend!: Smile to make the apple of your cheek more prominent and apply a light dusting over the area in a circular motion. Apply gradually to get the colour you are after.  Make sure to blend the blush well! Remember, with powder blush; only sweep it in one direction to avoid streaks.

5.The new kids on the block: Cream blushes are a new trend and last longer than traditional powder blushes. If you have cream blush in the same shades as your powder blush, try blending the two shades. Apply the cream blush first and then brush the powder on over the cream for a longer lasting effect. A tip to remember is if you have greasy or combination skin, use powder blush. If your skin is dry, go with a cream blush.

6.If in doubt, tone it down: If you find that you’ve applied too much (and you will know if you resemble a clown!), simply take a washcloth with some astringent and lightly run it over the area to tone down the colour. You can also apply a light dusting of face powder over the area to tone down the colour as well.

How to apply? Dab the colour onto clean fingertips, and apply sparingly to cheekbones, blending very well. This blush packs a lot of punch, so some trial and error maybe needed before you get your desired result.

Colour lasted – Great long lasting power, did not budge.
Streaks or caking? This product can build very quickly, but it does not streak.

CoverGirl Instant Cheekbones Trio Blush $12.95

Find a colour that’s suits you by mixing and matching

I love this trio for its versatility. This is really a blush for all occasions, small enough to go anywhere with you. The darkest shade will look fab for a night time look, mix it with the middle shade for a lunch date, or use the lightest shade for a casual look for movies on the weekend.

How to apply? The brush supplied is sufficient, but to make the most of mixing the shades, use a fat soft blush brush.
Colour suitable for – These pinks are great for a fair complexion, although the deeper colour looks great on darker skins.
Colour lasted – A definite need to reapply the lighter shades.
Streaks or caking? None
Texture and weight – Not the softest texture of them all, but still a good finish.
Overall rating 7/10

MAC Blushcreme in Lady Blush $32 .

A long last crème in a great shade.

Looking for blush that won’t budge? This is definitely a product for all the ‘long last’ fans out there. Apply this little gem underneath your foundation for a gentle glow, or over the top for touchable, dewy skin. Apply a powder blush in the same colour for maximum length of wearing.

How to apply? Dab clean fingers into the compact and apply to cheeks, more for under the foundation, or less for over the foundation. Blend really well.
Colour suitable for – Fair to medium skin tones.
Colour lasted – Until it was removed.
Streaks or caking? This blush can streak a little if you are unpractised in its application, and be careful with the amount you apply, otherwise you will feel like joining the circus.
Texture and weight – Fairly sticky, and it can melt in the heat.
Overall rating 6/10

Napoleon Barely Blushing in Barely Rouge $29

A great handbag companion

This is a pretty unique product for those who love a two in one product. Rouge your cheeks for a pretty pink glow, or dab on your lips for a strawberry stain, under your favourite gloss.

How to apply? Squeeze the liquid onto your fingertips and quickly apply to your cheeks and blend well. Dab the applicator straight to your lips then apply your favourite lip gloss.
Colour suitable for – those who love a rosy red glow.
Colour lasted – More reapplications are needed on the lips than the cheeks
Streaks or caking? Can be a little streaky if not blended properly.
Texture and weight - Very light weight, but not the nicest texture, it can feel as if it is ‘stuck’ to your skin.
Overall rating 7/10
