We’re loving the work of Melbourne artist Jeremy Kool. The Paper Fox Project is the working title of his interactive storybook for iPad and Android tablets featuring amazing creatures & landscapes digitally created to look like paper-craft and origami. He is selling fine-art prints from the book to fund the project – pick up yours here. Follow his progress on The Paper Fox Project blog.

Our New Christmas Tradition

Written by Megan

The delightful M brought these clever Gingerbread House Kits to our attention, suggesting the Kids Confidential team place a bulk order with Gingerbread Folk.

The ingenious kit contains everything you need to construct your very own gingerbread house. Optional extras to order include great quality lollies for decorating, along with baseboard, cellophane and gift ribbon to package the house up for a lucky recipient.

Produced in the beautiful Blue Mountains, Gingerbread Folk products are all natural and presented in environmentally-friendly packaging. Both their delicious biscuit & royal icing are egg-free which is good news for allergy sufferers & chickens everywhere.

But aside from the quality and flavour, these kits deliver on good old fashioned fun! There was something quite magical about coming together to get our little home constructed, the joy of marveling at it complete, and the fun of sending proud pics to friends & family afar.

As a rookie to the gingerbread house tradition, we wanted to share a few tips. Feel free to add your own!

- Don’t be overconfident with the icing bag – it’s an art.
Snip a really small hole for greater control & line weights
- Put your front door on the longer wall, or you’ll end up with a gingerbread
terrace house
- If you have pedantic team members with high falutin’ design ideas, divide up your
candy by colour, type & quantity
- Freckles can be flowers AND roof tiles… use your imagination people!
- Small puppies really like licorice allsorts so don’t leave them in paws-reach

Order your own double shot of Christmas spirit here and be sure to submit pics of your grand design to their facebook page.

A New Darling

Written by Megan

Penciled in for the next trip to the big smoke, a trip to The Darling Quarter Kids Playground.

Formerly the old Sega World Centre, the revitalised precinct includes a community green with public deckchairs, restaurants, gelato bar & what has been described as Sydney’s coolest playground designed by the fun lovin’ folk at ASPECT Studios.

With balance ropes, 8m slippery slide, 21m flying fox, climbinf net, diggers, water jets, squirts & scoops & screws, there is no shortage of fun things to do on a warm day!

Getting there is half the fun, with trains, ferries, buses, lightrail or monorail all servicing Darling Harbour, and be sure to pack your paddle for the free ping-pong tables.

Lego Love

Written by Megan

Released in 1977, the denim Lego Playmat with Drawstring featured heavily in my childhood & is still in use today by nieces and nephews. Looking at family albums, I suspect my mother may have been inspired by the packaging when it came to both my hair & wardrobe!

With such vivid memories of dragging the bag out & diving on the ‘best’ pieces before my sister could snag them, I was rather excited to see this most modern incarnation – the Swoop Bag – featured over at Babyccino Kids. We love the simple, sturdy design which is perfect for storing all those little Lego pieces in one place.

And for the crafty types amongst us, be sure take a look at Make It Perfect’s DIY tutorial!

Christening Keepsakes

Written by Megan

Christenings, baptisms, naming days, blessings – each is an opportunity to celebrate the arrival of a little one and reinforce the breadth of love and support they can draw on throughout their life. It is always lovely to acknowledge to the occasion with a keepsake, but what if the Tiffany rattle or leather bound bible just aren’t your style? Well, lucky for you the Kids Confidential team did a quick round up of our picks for thoughtful, contemporary gifts for a precious new arrival:

Flensted Mobiles to look at every day & not grow out of too quickly.

The George Jensen Moneyphant elephant moneybox to have forever… because elephants never forget!

A lovely blanket from the David Fussenegger range or our favourite, the super soft, Australian-made Sunday Ganim selection.

For the nursery, a very fun rug that will match any colour scheme, or an affordable art print or photography from Jen Benkman’s 20×200 store.

Last but not least, a wooden toy such as the Ursa or the classic Rosendahl range.

I always think Flensted Mobiles make a lovely gift that they don’t grow out of too quickly. Or the George Jensen elephant moneybox that they will have forever (because elephants never forget!)

Perhaps a lovely blanket such as David Fussenegger or these lovely Australian ones. Or for the nursery, a fun rug that will match any colour scheme.

Last but not least, a wooden toy such as the Ursa or the classic but pricey Rosendahl range.

Hope that helps!

Feelin’ Crafty

Written by Megan

After admiring some remarkable birthday cakes of late (be sure to marvel at K’s Fairy Castle below… and yes people, that is a Flake drawbridge), I’ve been pondering an increasingly common fear: birthday baking pressure.

Hunting around for some inspiration, I came across these undeniably cute golden animal candle holders.

The clever Jenny from Hank + Hunt shared her brilliant DIY tutorial over at The Sweetest Occasion so you can create them at home.

PS. K’s Fairy Castle, setting the benchmark!
