Fashion designers, Becky Cooper and Bridget Currer, met in 2000 on their first day of studying fashion design at University, quickly becoming close friends. In 2001, their friends started requesting makeovers for their neglected jeans. "We started spraying, printing, dyeing, stitching and scratching old jeans to make them 'new' again.' This was around the time when denim was taking off in a big way, particularly the distressed denim look."
Suddenly, they had stores placing orders, and the bec & bridge label was born. They completed their studies, won a business award through Australian Business Limited and were invited to participate in Australian Fashion Week. Since then, bec & bridge has evolved into a desirable young women's wear label - playful, feminine and fun.
Loving life and loving fabric
bec & bridge have a particular passion for fabrics and textiles, colours and prints. 'We get really excited when we find a gorgeous fabric. Sometimes it might inspire an entire range.' The girls manage to effectively translate beautiful textiles into wearable styles. Best of all, bec & bridge clothing is totally affordable. 'We aim to keep all our prices below $250. This includes dresses and silk pieces too'.
So what was the inspiration for Summer 07?
The bec & bridge Summer collection has been inspired by 'la dolce vita'. Think the Amalfi coast in the Italian sunshine, riding a vespa and wearing a little white playsuit. Imagine glowing pastel sunsets and pink bougainvilleas lining the streets. The collection is
bursting with dainty florals, gentle stripes, little girl buttons in bows and hearts. Full of colour and gorgeous prints.
Sweet frocks for summer…
Look out for the 'Lovers Dress' in salsa red and romantic cream. This gorgeous babydoll style has a jersey section as the top and irregular brushed floral print on the linen as the skirt. It is perfect for an afternoon picnic or evening cocktails. The 'Little Madame Dress' has a dainty ballet neckline with a delicate silk cotton floral skirt. Pretty and demure, this frock is perfect for day into night wear.
bec & bridge basics
bec & bridge have a desirable basics range of singlets and tee's.
Look out for the Flower's T and Flower's singlet in a delicate burnt out cotton, available in black and white. These are perfect for layering or as everyday pieces.
So what is coming up for bec & bridge?
