Belinda Fairbanks began her journey to fashion fame in 2001 when her small by stunning collection of handpainted silk dresses graced the windows of Melbourne designer boutique Hoss. Within a week Melbournian fashionistas had completely snapped up the stock, and Belinda was on her way to big name glory.
In good company
By March 2003, Belinda was thrilled to be selected along with designer royalty such as Alannah Hill and Leona Edmiston to promote the Melbourne Fashion Festival. Her first Melbourne Fashion Festival runway show received rave reviews and saw her labelled by The Age as "one of Melbourne's best fresh fashion makers."
Project catwalk
Where next? MAFW of course! Belinda showcased her collection at the 2005 Mercedes Australian Fashion Week to rave reviews. The Sydney Morning Herald described it as 'One of the Best Collections…. that stopped delegates in their tracks.' Department stores in England were listening, with Belinda securing her first international wholesale account with London's Selfridges.
Life for the label got bigger and better. In addition to the success of her own namesake label, Belinda also negotiated a contract with the popular chain store Sportsgirl, to supply a capsule range for the 2005 Spring Racing Carnival. The lush range was stocked at selected stores in Melbourne and Sydney.
What about now?
For winter 2007, Belinda has blasted into the past with sensational high waisted flared cords and snowflake jumpers. Taking on the classic look of a long forgotten rock era, Belinda's collection is filled with metallics with gold and silver, backless dresses and low cut tops. We love the sweet mini dresses teamed with naughty thigh high stockings, and the luxuriously long evening dresses.
Belinda Fairbanks carefree and easygoing attitude to life has influenced her ranges right from the beginning. Using striking prints and bold colours Belinda's designs create an effortless sex appeal and play on the confident, relaxed spirit of the home grown Australian girl. What results is raw style reflective of the wearer's natural spirit and inherent beauty.
I want, I want , I want.
