He was once a Ksubi bad boy, but following what he describes as a love/hate relationship with the brand, Gareth Moody waved goodbye to Hollywood and hello to life on the road. His journey led him to the Chronicles of Never and the fashion pack have been saying amen ever since.View more from the collection here >>
Two years since his first collection was released and three ready to wear collections later, Moody continues to quietly impress fashion savvy boys and girls with his sleek unisex collections of edgy and moody (pardon the pun) jewellery, tees and basics in soft cottons and jerseys, knits, leather and suede shoes and also tailored jackets, trousers and vests.
The Chronicles boy and girl layer with finesse, look effortlessly cool and wear scuffed, pointed shoes and draped scarves. They don't follow fashion - they lead the pack, much like Moody himself.
Originally a collection of bold jewellery fashioned into new shapes and made from different mediums, the first Chronicles of Never collection debuted in 2006. Moody's first post-Ksubi solo creation, the collection was a unique range of unisex necklaces, bracelets and rings sculpted from real and old materials. Black brass, brushed silver and blackened silver were the metals of choice - perfectly reflecting Moody's dark, rough and chic aesthetic.
The premier collection also had a small unisex clothing capsule of graphic t-shirts and was debuted at the prestigious Sydney store South West Trader, which hosted a black tie event featuring various artists and musicians, which drew the Sydney fashion pack out for an evening to see just what the ex-Ksubi boy had been up to lately.
The turn out was an indication of the industries confidence in Moody - as a creative and a fashion force in his own right. "Jewellery is very personal which is what I love about making it, but clothing is more versatile", says Moody of his broadening collection of unisex wearables.
The first ready to wear range came in the form of 'Water Will Burn', the Chronicles of Never collection for Spring Summer 07/08. In another leap, for winter 2008, Moody took a step forward in the realm of denim, designing a complete capsule of unisex jeans in a variety of classic but androgynous fits and washes. This instalment was titled, 'Another Slogan vs The World'.
The most recent collection for Spring Summer 08/09 is 'Black Noise White rain'. Launched to the media in Sydney during Australian Fashion Week the collection is based on "the summer solstice, objects of tangible and intangible worship, paganism, the obelisk and its reference to the sun and the gods behind it".
In addition to this Spring Summer 08/09 brings the launch of a unique collaboration between Moody and renowned Sydney eyewear designer Graz Mulcahy. Keep a look out for the debut collection of super-cool sunglasses which will be available in limited numbers world wide from September '08.
Chronicles of Never can be found in boutiques worldwide including American Rag in the US, Selfridges in London, Arida, Attic, Incu and Southwest Trader in NSW, Fat 4, Cactus Jam and Nom D in VIC and Wasteland in WA.
