“It’s just a little Frou Frou darling!”

It was her knack of changing an entire outfit with one single piece of eye-catching jewellery that inspired Peta Matthews to bring to life her label ‘Frou Frou Designs.’

“I love the way just by adding jewellery you can change the look of an outfit, taking it from being quite casual to very glamorous just by changing your jewellery,” Peta explains.

Sourcing her amazing beads and stones from Australia and overseas, Peta called on her love of classical design and an enthusiasm for more contemporary themes to create truly a truly unique collection of necklaces, earrings and bracelets.

Discovered at the supermarket

By chance, Peta began life as a professional jewellery designer when she was spotted wearing her striking designs at her local supermarket.

Peta elaborates. “I actually started out with a milliner who had a shop in Randwick - she spotted me wearing my pieces while in Coles and asked me where I had bought them...

and next thing I knew I was designing for her shop. The label just went from there, and my business just grew through word of mouth.”

And grow it did – Frou Frou is now stocked in 16 boutiques across NSW and VIC, each offering Frou Frou’s fantastic range of one of a kind pieces.

What is a Frou Frou Design?

The inspiration for the name of Peta’s label is all in the family. Frou Frou was inspired by “my mother actually ... she would always come home from a shopping expedition with the most outrageous clothes hats and shoes and say "don't worry darling it just a little frou frou," so I came to associate being a little over the top and "out there," and I thought this was really appropriate for my label.”

Peta designs her jewels with the unique and sexy girl in mind, who loves a looking and feeling glam.

So what kind of girl wears Frou Frou? “Girls that want to be noticed... To stand out from the crowd... Frou Frou is all about having fun, exploring femininity and feeling confident and sexy!

What’s up next for Frou Frou?

Sexy underthings may just be the next step in the Frou Frou journey, with Peta declaring her next goal is “Lingerie, I would love to design fabulous sexy lingerie.”
