Jacqui Alexander’s 'Blank Canvas' offers us a wealth of possibilities.

This summer, art and fashion are married with effortless ease at the hands of talented designer Jacqui Alexander. With a growing number of collections that convey the timelessness and elegance of the Jacqui Alexander label, it’s her latest collection ‘A Blank Canvas’ that has captured our attention.

Drawing inspiration from her artistic heritage, Jacqui’s summer collection is shaped by her grandfather’s bold and colourful paintings. These beautiful abstract works inspired Jacqui’s stand out collection, designed especially for the girl who is independent and charming (regardless of age), who loves fashion and appreciates true style.

A family affair.

Jacqui’s family roots are firmly embedded in the fashion industry where she learnt all there is to know about design from her father, a costume designer for the Russian Ballet. “Two years ago, under his guidance, I put together a collection that we took overseas where I got my break after showing in Germany and Paris,” Jacqui says.

Leading a life surrounded by colour, art and fashion inspired Jacqui to lead a life of design herself. It’s the skills and fine taste she learnt so early on that influences and defines her collections today.

Getting personal.

It’s the designers that have broken the mold and shaped their own definition of fashion that Jacqui admires the most. Widely recognized as one of the more influential designers of the 20th Century, Karl Lagerfeld’s elegant and classic designs inspire Jacqui’s creative side.

“I also love designers who are able to combine fashion with theatrical elements like Alexander McQueen,” she adds.

Down to business.

We can’t get enough of Jacqui’s collection, but which of her own designs does she favour the most?

“My favourite piece form the Spring Summer collection is a gorgeous dress inspired by my grandfather's painting that actually features his art on an exclusive printed silk body. It's the perfect dress for the races and a truly unique piece,” she says.

A guaranteed hit of the season will be this bold black and white dress (left), which is fun and flirty but oh-so-sophisticated all at once.

Honorable mention.

You may be seeing a whole lot more of Jacqui very soon. The gorgeous girl has been announced as the face of Melbourne Fashion Week, which begins on the 3rd of September. “It's a huge honor to represent the fashion community I grew up in and even more exciting to be opening the festival with my own solo show.”
