Connect three incredibly talented designers sharing one philosophy - "never follow the trend, and stray from what others expect", and the result is an up and jumping label from Perth, named One Fell Swoop.
It was while studying at the WA School of Art Design and Media that this Perth design trio - Daniel Romanin, Marianna Mazzura and Nikokina Ergic, first met. With all three working along side other designers whilst studying - the logical forming of talent came soon after completing their studies.
How do you all fit in?
Running a fashion labels has always been a three person job. With creative energy, Daniel, Nina and Marie all collaborate in terms of design. The business roles of administration, production, sampling are then split between them. So from conception to production, all three designers are involved. It's a relationship which really seems to foster the flow of creative energy,
aiding each other's strong ideas to grow and flourish.
Who is wearing One Fell Swoop?
The three designers are unanimous in their opinion of just who the One Fell Swoop girl is. "She's certainly outgoing, has a sense of humour, is intelligent, knowledgeable and worldly. She is individual and forward thinking and has her own personal clever way of putting outfits together," Marie says. "There is a touch of Avant Garde with One Fell Swoop. Our designs can be a little over the top, or they can be portrayed in an original and amazing completely unique and understated way. That's the beauty of such a versatile collection. It can be teamed with high waisted jeans or it can be worn altogether to make a statement."
It all happened in One Fell Swoop.
In explaing the name, Marie explains, " 'One Fell Swoop' means to do everything all in one go. So it felt right as the name for the label, given that was exactly what we did to get started. We just got on with it, we put everything we had into the label when we created One Fell Swoop."
What should we look for this summer?
Summer is all about the pretty dress, and the top choices for the upcoming season are the duplicity drummer dress and the tartan private dress. "The Drummer Dress is a statement piece that has been duplicated throughout every collection due to its popularity and its beauty. People fall in love with it. They always ask for it in every collection so we do it in a different way all the time. It best represents the look and feel of the label.
Clever collaborations
The next winter range will include both men's and women's wear range. Also watch out for the launch of the One Fell Swoop mobile phone, which is an exciting collaboration with Samsung. Marie elaborates. "They asked 10 designers to submit a cover for the phone and OFS won, from a public vote. It was a part of L'Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival and we were told that our design for the phone was the public's choice winner in every state!"
With what seems like a well stocked barrel of creative energy, we're betting a long future for this Perth trio.
