Balloon sleeves, 60’s hemlines and an 80’s sensibility to dress your winterSydney designer Tim O’Connor first launched his women’s label 10 years ago, with a desire to creating stylish, effortless dressing. After being stocked in prestigious boutiques across the city, he opened his flagship store in 2002 in the heart of the fashionable and artistic circles of Woollahra, where east Sydney fashionistas snapped up the creations quickly.
Tim’s first time out at MAFW in 2004 saw rave reviews by international fashion press, which led to his designs adorning the windows of boutiques in London, New Zealand and Singapore. Next stop for the Tim O’Connor label is Paris and more stockists in Europe.
Prints to surprise and delight.
As one of the first designers to use the spectacular wallpaper prints from the late eccentric designer Florence Broadhurst, Tim has become famous for his use of bold prints and colours. He delights in this influence to this day, and the current range features a bold yet elegant floral design in tangerines, greens and teal blues from the Broadhurst library.
Looking ‘In Vogue’
Renowned for his soft lined jersey dresses, tailored understated chic suiting and the must -have signature trenchcoat, Tim’s A/W 2007 collection is described as “so wearable you can throw together almost any combination of garments from the range and hit the streets looking like the fashion editor of French Vogue.”
Inspired by the use of form and colour, Tim has combined these elements to create a sophisticated and wearable collection of strong clean shapes. Structured pieces in a soft colour pallet are highlighted with silver metallics designed to layer, wear loose and pull in at the waist.
What can I expect for winter?
Balloon sleeves, 60's hemlines and shift dresses with an 80's sensibility (think body suits and sweater dresses) complement the innovative yet basic, strong shapes that make up the collection.
We are loving the coats this season – It will be a difficult choice between these must-haves, in either a metallic brocade swing style with bracelet length sleeves made to push up the arm, or a fluid wrap coat that doubles as a slouchy dress.
