You've no doubt seen pieces from the Valerie Tolosa collection in specialty boutiques around Australia. This bright spark launched to much acclaim at the Mercedes Fashion Week in 2002 with a stand out collection that signaled this gal as 'one to watch".
With the release of this summer 07/08 collection "Come Fly with me" - the label remains true to its old world and vintage charm - singing cosmopolitan chic from every hem, seam and detail.
Set to be her most covetable collection to date, dress fans will be impressed by effortless smocks and shift dresses in delicate hues of yellow, striking black, purple, fine silk and metallic satin.
Classic genes
Valerie's passion for design and classic style is very much ingrained. Her grandmother was a tailor who specialized in wedding dresses and taught Valerie to sew and pattern make at a young age. Her biggest fan, Valerie's grandmother continues to encourage her. So beside 1960 and 70's Pan Am air hostess fashion, school photographs of her mother and grandmother were equal inspiration for her current range.
Fabric motivates form for Valerie - her designs reflect the nature of the material she uses and highlight their unique beauty. Her favorite piece from this collection, the Berlin Button Dress embodies this technique. The combination of cotton and crochet lace means the dress has a soft rigidness yet it moves with the body and is endlessly versatile.
Valerie sources custom made fabrics from China, Italy and France and follows overseas collection releases closely. Her creative process is organic in that she draws inspiration from all of her interests, and loves to fill gaps in season trends with her own distinctive pieces.
Worthy praise
The Valerie Tolosa label has grown significantly. In 2006 her range "Young Hollywood" was stocked by 25 boutiques nationally and her Summer 2004 collection, "An Affair to Remember" was picked up in full by Valerie's first International Boutique, Singapore's 'Trixillini' and then by 'Behave' in London.
Just as Summer 2006 celebrated Tolosa's Ashley Frill Dress and Vogue forums were bubbling madly with praise for the Chloe A-line Dress, this years collection will likely attract similar attention and how could it not, with a line up like the London Frill and Paris Puff Sleeve dresses.
Star compliments
When asked how it feels to have your designs worn by the worlds best known and fashion conscious people including Miranda Kerr, Kate Hudson and Paris Hilton, Valerie admits that although surreal, she regards it as the highest complement possible.
Named 'Designer to watch' by Marie Claire Magazine, Valerie Tolosa's latest edgy and glamorous collection has confirmed her place amongst the best new stars of the world fashion community. Take a peak at the current collection and find news on stockists at www.valerietolosa.com.
