Here at Missy, we are somewhat accessories obsessed. Would it be an exaggeration to say it’s becoming a mental health problem? Perhaps, perhaps not! Either way, we were beyond excited to hear about the Season 2, 2013 collection from Mimco called (intriguingly) ‘The Alchemy Symposium’… and even more excited to see the beautiful pieces…
With names like ‘Poseidon Satchel”, ‘Hello Sailor Wrist’, ‘Urchin Scarf’ and ‘Planktomania Neck’, you’re beginning to get the idea. Mimco has taken inspiration from the briny deep for this season’s assortment of shoes, jewellery, scarves and bags.
This under-the-sea theme has resulted in a richly textural collection, utilising the colours and shapes and of marine life. From a delicately crafted seahorse attached to the ‘Mermaid Shuffle Choker’, to the bubble-like balls of rose gold and glass pearls in the ‘Planktomania Wrist’, the imagery of a fantasy underwater world runs through every piece.
For this campaign, Mimco has called in the services of their most ardent fans and members of the Mim Collective community, choosing 5 pairs of sisters to model the pieces against a backdrop of rocky cliff faces at the ocean’s edge. You can watch a behind the scenes film of the shoot below.
One of these sister sets are Jess and Stef Dadon, from Australian fashion blog How Two Live. “The mood of balance, symmetry, yin and yang and attracting opposites is prevalent throughout the new collection. Our 10 Mimco muses, five pairs of real-life sisters, will bring this to life in our symposium of symmetry” says Cathryn Wills, Creative Director.
