Whether you’re hustling from home or an office in the big smoke, the below tips are sure to inject some joy and inspiration into your nine to five lifestyle …
1. Colour coordinate books and files
This is one of the easiest tricks in the book and it packs a lot of visual punch. By grouping together books or filing folders that have the same colour spine, your shelving will look approximately 534 per cent more organised… and fabulous.
2. Add some greenery
It would be a happy world if we all worked outside in the warm dappled light, surrounded by flowers and birds and sexy topless waiters … Sorry, where was I? Oh yes, greenery. Pop a couple of cute succulents in your workspace for a much-needed hit of nature. The best thing about succulents is that you can grow them in almost anything – I keep cuttings in vintage bottles.
3. Frame your inspiration
I love sticking inspirational quotes, pictures, or anything that gives my eyes a break from the computer screen, around my workspace. For a super polished look, frame a few choice pieces and stick smaller pics neatly on a good old-fashioned pin board.
4. Be clever with clutter
Even the more minimalist amongst us encounters clutter from time to time. You just have to keep it out of sight. Use boxes (colour coordinated of course!) or wicker baskets to store your stuff and create the illusion of cleanliness.
5. Give your chair some love
Unless you have a beautiful designer chair in your workspace, chances are you’re stuck with the bland office variety. Spice it up by draping some beautiful fabric or a small blanket over the back. Mine is covered with a gorgeous old sarong, and I can’t tell you the hours I’ve spent staring at it instead of doing my work …
