Awards nights like the Golden Globes and the Academy Awards are kind of like prom or formal night for Hollywood’s A-listers.

And typically, like on formal night, we see a whole lot of safe, pretty, bridesmaid type gowns!

This year we thought we’d pick the best of the rest: the looks that broke the death grip dominance of the strapless princess style gown, had a little edge, and generally made a statement!
