February and early March may have been all about the big four fashion weeks, but for the last fortnight or so, it’s been our turn to shine on the international fashion stage.
While Sydney played host to the glam fash-pack crowd who attended Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia earlier this week, rewind to just over a fortnight ago and all eyes were on Melbourne for the Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion Festival (otherwise known as VAMFF), an event open to not only editors, bloggers and others in the biz, but regular fashion-loving folk, too.
While in the past certain trends have been strictly relegated to either spring/summer or autumn/winter, this season we’re seeing a blurring of lines between the two. Sure, there were plenty of cold-weather staples that we’ve come to expect on the catwalk at this time of year on the VAMFF runways – you know, chic coats, tailored trousers, cosy knits and other apparel in heavier textures and wintery tones (black, grey, navy and the like) – but this year, hints of fresh, spring hues, skin-revealing styles and airy, more summer-appropriate fabrics made an appearance, too. And we’re not complaining.
So, what trends should be on your radar this season? Good question. Here, we take you through 15 of our faves from VAMFF – and before you ask, no, the questionable socks-and-sandals look did not make our list!
