Now you may not believe me, but I promise what I’m about to say is true: There are gorgeous bridesmaid dresses out there. Loads of them! Ones you’ll love on the day and even more afterwards. Ones you’ll happily fork out your hard-earned dollars for, and not even feel slightly tempted to put on eBay the weekend after the big day.
The trick to finding that gorgeous, flattering, picture-perfect bridesmaid dress is this: Do your research. You’ll want to get together for a bridal party pow-wow and discuss the time of year you’ll be shopping, your budget, theme and of course – colour and style. Then get online and hit the shops to get as many ideas together as possible.
Start with the theme your bride-to-be has in mind. Long or short? What’s her preferred colour palette? Will you be wearing identical dresses? This is an easy way to narrow down your shortlist and ensure you have plenty of time to shop for something perfect.
Shopping at the right time of year may also allow you to snap up a designer gown on sale. Plenty of labels and international sites have discounts of up to 70 per cent off right now, making it the perfect time to shop. You should also think about what season you’re heading into. Can you wear the dress to the Races or a Christmas or New Year’s Eve party? You’ve instantly doubled the wearability right there!
And finally, have you considered separates? You’re much more likely to wear a skirt and top again if you can find pieces that work with your existing wardrobe and suit the bride’s vision at the same time. A lace pencil skirt or fluted hem can be sweet, or try a full skirt for a glamorous and feminine look.
