Dos and Don'ts: Valentine's Day Date Night Outfits
What you should and shouldn't be wearing on the most romantic day of the year

While I believe that every day should be romantic, Valentine's Day is the one day that a date night is guaranteed. For those who have a V-Day date with a new flame, I've put together some dos and don'ts that will help you with your outfit choices for the night. I've got an old flame that I will be spending the night with, and I'll definitely be putting these into practice too!

DO wear something that you are comfortable in

There is nothing worse, or more distracting, than wearing something that is painful or annoying. It’s totally understandable that you would want to wear those gorgeous Aquazurra stilettos, even though you could only buy them in a size too small, but your date isn’t going to find it cute when you can’t walk from the car to the restaurant without taking a break - save them for a night out with the girls, who will fully appreciate the need to wear them! The same goes for an ill-fitting top, with a strap that you keep having to adjust, or false lashes that keep poking you in the eye – wear them another time! On a date night, you want to be looking confident and comfortable, there’s nothing sexier.

DON’T try to be someone else

When you are on a date, especially a first date, it is silly to try to pretend to be someone else. You wouldn’t change your personality for a date, so why change your personal style! There’s a reason why you love to wear the things that you wear, so stick with them. If you really feel the need to go above and beyond for your date, mix it up with an out-there piece of jewellery that you might not always opt for.

DO wear something sexy

I’ve read way too many articles advising us not to wear something sexy on Valentine’s Day. Are they crazy? Valentine’s Day is the one day that you are supposed to dress sexy. The key is to keep it classy too. If you are lucky enough to be the owner of killer curves, show them off in a flattering dress but keep the length long and the coverage full. There’s a lot to be said for leaving something to the imagination! For girls without bosoms or hips, be daring and go for a plunging neckline.

DON’T just throw something on

I know I have said a lot about dressing for comfort and being yourself, but that doesn’t mean that it’s ok to wear trackies and a muscle tee (unless of course your date is on the couch with some ice-cream and Netflix). Do a bit of research into the venue, or if it’s a secret, ask your date what would be an appropriate outfit. I always take a spare lippy and a hair tie in my handbag to dress up or down an outfit – red to dress up, nude to dress down.
