Back to Basics: 5 shoes every woman should own
"Why do I need so many pairs of shoes?” … said NO WOMAN EVER.

Generally speaking, a love of shoes seems inexplicably linked to that extra X chromosome that makes us women, alongside the joy we find in a great bargain, Ryan Gosling GIFs, eating cookie dough ice-cream from the tub, and crying over proposal scenes in movies.

But back to the shoes. It’s easy to get carried away sometimes. You may think you need a pointed pump in every animal print available, but our pay packets will only take us so far.
That’s where I’m here to help. For your shopping pleasure, I have sorted the must-haves from the love-them-now-but-are-they-really-necessary shoes.

Here’s my list of the five (yes, just five!) shoes every fashionable woman should own.

1. The statement heel

Here’s your chance to have fun. Choose between a floral print pump and bejewelled pair of Manolos, the Sophia Webster cage heel or oxblood lace-up. And that’s just my current wish list!

1. Sophia Webster Roka suede pumps, $755

2. The Mode Collective Ox Blood Croc lace up point, $289

3. Tony Bianco Fabrique Blue/Green Flower Satin pump, $169.95

2. The failsafe heel

These are your comfortable, pretty, sensible heels that work for any occasion with almost any outfit. The key to this shoe is the comfort factor! You can run for the train (if need be), wear them all day to the races, or all night dancing. They’re your nude pump, black wedge, t-bar or simple strappy heel.

4. Wittner Ralex Black Leather heal, $149.95

5. Gianvito Rossi Vertan patent-leather pumps, $584.83 via Net-A-Porter

6. Gorman Midnight Hour heel, were $299 now $249

3. The ankle boot

We love the ankle boot for its versatility – they can be worn year round. They work in autumn and winter, but you can also whip them out to toughen up your look in the warmer months. Keep it black but play with texture or detailing. Croc effects, mixed suede and leather, gold buckles or zips will give your LBB (little black boot) personality.

7. Alex at aliasmae.com $199.00

8. The Mode Collective Black Croc point ankle boot, $299

9. Acne Studios The Pistol leather ankle boots, $606.90 via Net-A-Porter

4. The versatile flat

For brunching or shopping, casual Fridays or any other period of fashion downtime. The style can change from season to season so choose one that reflects the contents of your wardrobe. Into crisp, white button-ups? Try a ballet flat. Ripped denim? Sneaker or plimsoll. Overalls and anoraks? Try a leopard slip-on.

10. Novo Defuze leopard print sneakers, $49.95

11. Nike Roshe Run 14 sneakers in violet, $99.99 via Glue Store

12. Tamsin Stone Plain Patent Flats

5. The summer sandal

Last but certainly not least. A leather sandal is non-negotiable and the choices out there are endless. Neutral leather and metallics work well here.

13 Urban Outfitters BDG Double-Strap slingback sandal, $34

14. Asos Fluent Sandals, $58.82

15. Senso Fifi II beige leopard pony sandals, $229
