Sweaty and stylish? No, these two words aren’t mutually exclusive. In fact, we’re going to put ourselves out there and say they go together like Wills and Kate, Dolce and Gabbana, Mary-Kate and Ashley, and… well, you get the picture.
Mustering the motivation to hit the gym can be a challenge at the best of times, but trying to psych yourself up for a workout when all you have to wear is frumpy, seen-better-days exercise gear is damn near impossible. Okay, so we exaggerate, but there’s no denying that when you’re suited up in flattering threads – even when working up a sweat – you look better, feel better and your self-confidence shoots through the roof too.
Activewear (thankfully!) has come a long way over the years. These days, fashion-forward tanks, cool printed tights, chic cropped-tops and colourful, kick-ass runners are generally what you’ll spy at the gym, rather than belly-button-skimming bike shorts (ewww), uncomfy off-the-shoulder tees (hello, annoying…), and ick-worthy unitards (oh, the horror!) that were the height of fitness fashion way back when. And not only is the new generation of sportswear stylish, flattering and practical, but many pieces – like jogging shorts, patterned tights and slim-fitting hoodies – can seamlessly slide between your workout and everyday wardrobes with ease.
If you’ve recently snapped into get-in-shape-for-summer mode, and think your gym clothes are looking a little worse for wear, then it’s time to channel your energy into reviving your closet with new fitness finds. The latest drop of Spring/Summer 2013 sportswear is already in stores, so there’s plenty to choose from – including the cool buys that we’re coveting, pictured here.
Like what you see? Well, get your skates on, because chances are these babies won’t linger on the shelves for long!
