Each year, designers around the world count down the days until Pantone, the global authority on all things colour, reveals what will be the ‘It’ colour for the year to come.

In 2013, everyone was going gaga for emerald, with the dazzling jewel tone seen all over the runway, splashed across the pages of must-read mags and blogs, and filling up the racks in fashion stores.

This year, Pantone has passed the crown on to Radiant Orchid, a punchy purple with fuchsia and pink undertones – a shade we suspect will soon be everywhere. And by soon, we actually mean right now!

So, how should you wear Pantone’s latest colour of the year? Radiant Orchid works beautifully as a block colour, but if you’re worried about looking a little too Purple People Eater and less polished and poised like SJP and Amy Adams (two celeb fans of the shade), then try teaming it with complementary colours.

If you want to go bold, we suggest yellows, greens and blues, while those who prefer the let-one-shade-shine look should stick with neutrals, white, black and grey. Or if you want to keep it in the family, pair Radiant Orchid pieces with similar shades like lavender, mauve, pink and other rosy tones.

Hands up if you’re pumped to try this rad and radiant shade of purple. Yup, just as we thought – pretty much everyone. Well, we’ve rounded up a few of our fave Radiant Orchid finds so you can start building up that purple-coloured section in your closet, stat.

How will you be wearing Radiant Orchid this season?
