Are you heading to Byron for Splendour in the Grass? (With an impressive line-up featuring Outkast, Interpol, Foals, Lily Allen and Childish Gambino, why wouldn’t you be!) Though packing space may be tight – you can only fit so much in that tent and car boot – we’ve whittled it down to the essentials. Get in touch with the good vibes in these festival-friendly threads – and no, it’s not all crop tops and round sunglasses. These fashion picks will keep you stylish (and warm) through the three-day bill …

Are you forgoing a hotel room for a shared tent with mates? You’re going to want to pack versatile clothing that’s easy to layer. This eye-popping sweatshirt makes a winter-ready style substitute to worn-thin band tees. The bolt of colour ensures your friends will be able to easily spot you in the crowd!

Are you the crowd-surfing type? Wear jeans to prevent yourself from flashing the world. We just love these cropped ones by Cheap Monday, which won’t get muddy around the ankles.

You’d be silly not to take precautionary measures in case Splendour’s a washout. As this writer can attest, music festivals (especially camping ones) can be disastrous if one’s not prepared for every weather-based eventuality. This raincoat sure beats your standard-issue festival poncho. A pair of ankle-length rain boots will also keep your toes cosy and are sturdy enough to wear in the mosh.

Don’t forget your seventies-chic brimmed hat . Even in winter, you need to protect your head from the sun’s rays.

Always take a lightweight scarf with you. When it’s hot, you can tie it around your head and when it’s cold, you can drape it around your shoulders. The brighter the print, the better!

You’ll definitely need a carryall to keep all your essentials – wet wipes, disposable camera, cash, chargers, what have you. A cross-body is easy to hold while you’re dancing – and you can even shorten the straps to stop yourself from accidently whipping your fellow festival-goers mid-spin!

With dusty grounds, sloppy Portaloo floors and the occasional beer spill, festivals can be messy business. Want a pair of shoes you can hose down after? These fun jelly sandals should do the trick.

Are you looking forward to dancing in the mosh? Wear anything with fringing, which is great for accentuating your best moves. Twirl and you’ll definitely turn heads.

Whether you’re an electro-head or folksy fan girl, it’s always a good idea to pile on the accessories. Think bracelet stacks and quirky sunglasses, such as these by Sportsgirl.
