So. You’re the bride. You want your dream wedding but you’re aware your best gals are going to have to fork out for a bridesmaid’s dresses and you want to let them have something they like and will feel good in. Maybe even want to wear again (gasp!).
A big trend for the bespoke bridesmaid dress is to have different cuts for each maid in the same fabric, so each girl has a dress that suits her body type.
From off the rack designer pieces to bridesmaid-specific dresses, here are the top 5 trends for Spring Summer 2013/14.
Asymmetry
This style works best with silky, flowing fabrics and brings a modern edge to look of the wedding party.
Ombre
This one has been around for a while - who remembers Gwen Stefani’s breathtaking hot pink and white ombre wedding gown by John Galliano for Dior, when she married whats-iz-name? This look is very summery - and would make a sartorial statement at any beach wedding.
Floral
These off the rack numbers are perfect for the romantic bridal party look. Match your floral dress with a perfect posy and you’ve got a fresh spring look that is pretty and feminine.
Tea Length
In a nod to mid-20th Century style, tea (or cocktail) length dresses have made a huge comeback. These are the dresses that will get the most re-use as they can worn for parties after the wedding duties are over. Go retro or modern, your bridesmaid will thank you for it.
Lace
This timeless look never fails to deliver. Let the fabric do all the talking in classic blush or cream or sophisticated black; go bold with bright colours for stop-and-stare impact.
So, brides and bridesmaids, which of these trends takes your fancy for the big day?
