London might be edgy, New York is cool, but Paris remains the chicest city of them all. Angie Fox took to the streets during Paris Fashion Week.
With London jostling to claim the title of world’s most fashionable city, fashionistas were out in force last week for the Paris Fashion Week ready-to-wear shows. Front and centre were the bloggers, who, although providing 24-hour-long, daily, running commentary on the SS14 collections, tend to wear the most edgy outfits themselves.
Everyone was there. Miranda Kerr was posting rapid fire on instagram. Here she is at Stella McCartney, there she is at Chanel and then again at Vionnet. There’s that amazing view again of the Eiffel Tower from her hotel suite. Kim and Kanye were also there and the who’s who of designers – Riccardo Tisci of Givenchy, Alexander Wang, Lanvin’s Alber Elbaz and Celine’s Phoebe Philo – sent the new parents outfits for baby North.
On an ordinary Parisian day you can randomly pluck ten women off the street to rate their attire and nine out of ten of them will be immaculately groomed and effortlessly chic. During Paris Fashion Week there is no room for error. If you’re not wearing your Isabel Marant Bobbys, or Becketts or whichever of the quintessential Parisian designer’s footwear is trending that week, you’re nobody. If you don’t have your oversized sunnies on you might as well go home.
Despite the overcast conditions, the humidity and the ominous threat of rain, the world’s most glamorous women were out at showrooms, dining at quaint Parisian bistros or shopping between shows. They were showing off their legs, their furs (real … it’s Paris darling), their flats (yes they’re in, people, hallelujah!) and their hats.
London, the fashion capital? We don’t think so.
Which of these Parisian fasionista's outfits do you like best?
