Sequins, rhinestones, studs and other sparkly embellishments have always traditionally been a Winter staple: they brighten up your mood when they bounce off the fairy lights and keep you smiling through the coldest, dullest days by putting a little sparkle in your step. But that doesn't mean you have to save up all your stylish sequins for the coldest months of the year, after all, they shine that much brighter in the sunshine.
However, they can often be a bit overdone, and you can end up looking more like a Christmas bauble rather than the chic 1920's flapper girl you're trying to channel. Striking a balance can be a struggle, especially if you're a total magpie, but if you use them sparingly, by incorporating just one sequin piece into your outfit and keeping that piece an accent, rather than a statement piece.
But there's no need to just save your sequins for the evenings, when they can look just at home at the beach if added as a decal to your beach bag. For girls who are feeling a little more gutsy this summer, you could go all out with one of Camilla’s swimsuits, which sparkle with wonderful sequin and bead designs that will have you feeling like a mermaid, frolicking in the waves.
On land you have even more options, with several ways to incorporate sequins in a subtle, even work-friendly way. Everything from a sequin wallet, hair bow or even chunky bangle can be incorporated into your everyday wardrobe. There are also some great tops with sequin designs that don't overwhelm your eyes, and a pair of glittery shoes can be taken from day to night with the right styling: just keep the rest of the outfit simple, with structured lines, neutrals and a possible single pop of colour to bring them right into summer. Blacks and greys are far too dreary for this fabulous weather!
