A good pair of jeans is like a long-serving friend: always there when you need them, by your side come chocolate or pizza; and non-judging, even when it comes to over-baked muffin tops. Here are four lesser-known labels in Australia that might just be your next best friend.

Hem and Haw is a Melbourne label with an American accent (the name is street slang for ‘um and ah’). They have a penchant for coloured stitching, slim fit legs, and look a skinny treat under boots. At $110 they’re cheap, fun, but never nasty.

The care instructions of A.C.P jeans recommend wearing for ‘a few months’ before washing. This might sound a little uncouth, but these French threads are made to be moulded in your image for life.

Acne Jeans don’t sound pretty, but the Swedish label is often seen hugging the pins of fashion’s most beautiful. Their cloth is strong, moveable, and only gets better with age. And while Acne isn’t a bargain buy, they’ll last years longer than any shopping mall ‘steal’.

If $300 plus isn’t in your price range, then never fear. Cheap Mondays will keep your wallet fat and pins looking slim. The Swedish label never strays above $120, and even hits $90 at the flagship store in Bondi. With more styles than Paris Hilton has miniskirts, you’d be unlucky to find a pair that didn’t fit on the Cheap.

What are your favourite threads? The jeans you couldn’t live without? Let Tragic in on your denim secret and you could win a double movie pass.
